Found a color palette, motif, artwork, or pattern that inspires you? Share it with us.

We can use your references to understand the direction you love and develop an original pattern for your project.

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one thinking about this. It’s one of the questions we get asked the most.

Even better, we take care of everything from the first sketch to the final stitch of your custom fabric. So here’s exactly how it works.

How Custom Printing Works

Share Your Inspiration

Show us the idea you want to bring to life. For some, it was a pattern found on Pinterest. For others, a piece of art from Instagram, or a design they made themselves.

Design Development

We want your idea to come through exactly as you pictured it. That starts with converting your design into a vector file (AI, EPS, PDF), built from mathematical paths instead of pixels.

We use vector files because they let us scale your pattern to any size without losing quality. What’s more, it lets us calculate exactly where the pattern should land on every cushion and seam, so it flows across your sofa instead of looking cut off or mismatched.

Give Us the Green Light

Once your design is ready, we’ll send you a digital mock-up to review. If something feels off, tell us and we’ll adjust it. Once it looks right, you give us the green light and we move to printing.

We Custom Print Your Fabric

Once you approve the design, we print samples on your material of choice so you can see the true color before we commit to the full run. We generally recommend high-performance velvet since it best ensures color vibrancy.

Next, we’ll mail your samples to you. Once you’re happy with them, we move into full production.

Your Dream Sofa Comes to Life

Once your samples are approved, we are ready to do our magic. Your fabric is upholstered by hand onto your sofa, and we’re confident your custom designed fabric will get compliments. Consider us the first in line to give you one.

A Few Things to Know Before You Print

Sofa with bold fabrics custom created by customers using vector printing

We know it’s exciting to design your own fabric. And from helping past customers through the process, we also know it can come with a few questions.

That’s why we are specifically trained to guide you through every step in a free design call. Quite literally, we hold your hand to make your vision into a reality.

With that said, here are a few notes on cost and timing:

  • Vector design fee: $300 per design (invoiced separately)
  • Printing and fabric fee: approximately $40 per meter
    • A single Mah Jong sofa seater needs fabric about 216 inches (5.5 m) long and 55 inches (140 cm) wide
    • Note: larger repeats, pattern matching, or special placement may require more fabric than the standard estimate above
  • Production time: about 3 weeks
  • Fabric sample shipping: about 7-10 days

If you’re still worried about bringing your idea to life, here’s what our design team promises:

  • Careful artwork preparation
  • A repeating pattern built to align perfectly
  • Color development matched to your vision
  • Pattern scaling for your exact piece
  • A digital furniture mock-up with the fabric
  • Five rounds of revisions
  • A print-ready file and fabric sample mailed to you

Case Study 1: Orange & Purple Stripe Modular Sofa

Two stripe patterns stacked, with a pink and green reference on top and the reworked, custom orange and purple version below

Will and Sachiko from California came to us with a soft pink and green stripe as her reference. But she wanted something bolder and more unique.

Here’s what we did:

  • Reimagined the pattern into deep oranges, purples, and gold
  • Adjusted the scale before printing it on velvet
  • Aligned the stripes perfectly across every seam
  • Matched the fabric-covered buttons to the pattern

She was smiling from ear to ear when she saw the final piece. She’s been getting compliments ever since, and we are happy to be one of them.

Case Study 2: Palm-Inspired Velvet

Brooke from Virginia had fallen in love with Schumacher’s Sunlit Palm Sisal wallpaper. Inspired by the tropical mood and palette she loved, we developed an original hand-rendered palm motif specifically for her Mah Jong sofa.

Very specific? Yes. But that’s exactly the kind of homeowner we love working with, someone with a taste for something unique.

Here’s what we did:

  • Reinterpreted the motif into a hand-rendered golden design
  • Printed it on matte velvet for best upholstery usage
  • Matched the tone and scale to match her original vision

When she finally saw the finished piece, it was exactly the California cool, modern tropical vibe she’d been after.

Will the Printed Color Match What I See On Screen?

Not exactly, and that’s normal. Screens create color with light, while textile printing uses ink on real fabric. The fiber, texture, and base color of your fabric can all shift how the finished color appears once it’s printed.

Because of this, your digital mock-up is only meant to review the design, scale, and placement. Your physical print sample is the best reference for final color approval.

That’s exactly why we send you a physical print sample before producing the full yardage. You get to see the real fabric in your own home, under your own lighting, before you give final approval.
